Face & Neck Lift Hamburg, Germany

A face and neck lift can help you to repair the signs of aging at the face and neck. UV light, stress, smoking, individual genetics and natural aging processes lead to wrinkles and slacked skin at the face and neck. This can make you look sad, tired, pre-aged or even sick. As part of a face and neck lift, excess skin will be removed and soft tissue redistributed.

It is possible to combine a face and neck lift with other procedures to achieve an optimal aesthetic result. For example, a liposuction of the chin and neck, an autologous fat transfer to temples, cheekbones and lips, an eyebrow lift or a blepharoplasty might be the right way to achieve a balanced face.

1) Before Your Operation

Dr. Thorsten Sattler will consult and examine you personally before your surgical procedure. Due to the fact that each person is unique, he will create a personal treatment plan for you based on the latest methods and knowledge in Plastic Surgery. He will take photos and will explain the operation to you with the help of drawings and photos. Limitations, possible risks and alternative treatment options will also be discussed.

It is very important to abstain from nicotine for at least two weeks before and after the procedure. Furthermore, you should talk soon about blood-thinning or bleeding-promoting substances with Dr. Sattler and you should limit the consumption of caffeine to a minimum, because bleeding and rebleeding can endanger the surgical result.

Dr. Sattler will define realistic aims together with you and will create an individual treatment plan. The main objective of a face and neck lift is to redistribute excess skin and soft tissue in order to achieve a youthful facial shape. To get the best possible aesthetic result, the face and neck lift can be combined with other procedures, such as liposuction, autologous fat transfer, a brow lift or a blepharoplasty.

An autologous fat transfer to the face in addition to a face and neck lift adds volume to deficient areas and will rejuvenate your face. In the same operation it is possible to correct the cheekbones and a double chin can be removed by liposuction. A harmonious appearance with youthful look is the aim of these procedures and can be achieved by combining various operating techniques.

2) Operating techniques

Only safe and modern surgical methods are used by Dr. Sattler. Face and neck lifts are usually performed under general anesthesia. A single small neck lift, also called “submental” neck lift, may possibly be performed in local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. It also applies for a sole liposuction on the face and neck or for isolated autologous fat transfers to the lips, temples and cheekbones. However, if a complete facial and neck lift is desired, general anesthesia is recommended. Depending on the size, extent and location of the surgery, you will decide together with Dr. Sattler whether local anesthesia or general anesthesia makes sense for you. Many different techniques to perform a blepharoplasty are known. Dr. Sattler will choose the best and safest method for you, depending on your anatomy and your aims and desires.

Usually, the scars can be hidden in your natural skin creases. It is important to avoid the “operated look” and to emphasize your natural beauty.

In a face lift or in a combination of face and neck lift, the cuts are placed in front of the ears and then proceed underneath the ear lobes around the ears. The cuts reach up to the hairy scalp. In this way, excess skin can be removed and soft tissue on the face can be displaced upwardly for underpadding. For example, to support the middle face including the cheekbones. Dr. Sattler uses magnifying glasses and special instruments in order to operate very precisely, to protect nerves and to minimize blood loss. After some time, the small scars in front of the ears are hardly visible, those behind the ears and in the hairy scalp are nearly invisible in daily life.

If only a neck lift is performed and small areas has to be tightened, it may be sufficient to make only a small incision below the chin. From there, excess fatty tissue can be removed and the sagging neck muscles are tightened with stiches that are placed like a corset. Additionally, the chin can be shaped by liposuction or built up by an autologous fat transfer. Below the chin, excess skin is removed elliptically. The results are less dramatic than with a large face including a neck lift, but they are very natural. A submental neck lift is less complex and involves significantly less risks and downtime than a complete face and neck lift.

Because there are many different techniques to perform this operation, Dr. Sattler will discuss the techniques with you to choose the best and safest method, depending on your anatomy and your aims and desires.

In combination with a face and neck lift procedure, it often makes sense to perform an autologous fat transfer to regions with a volume deficit, for example to the cheek bones, lips or temples. The extra volume provides additional youthfulness and a harmonious facial shape. Also wrinkles and scars can be injected with autologous fat and your skin can be revitalized by a stem cell transfer. Moreover, a blepharoplasty or a brow lift and forehead lift also highlighted your eyes. Of course, in addition to the surgical procedures, BTX and hyaluronic acid may also be used after the wound healing is completed to achieve perfect results.

Dr. Sattler works very carefully in order to obtain a harmonious and youthful facial shape with the best aesthetic result possible and with minimal scarring.

3) Results

By German law, we are not allowed to show you before/after pictures online. However, during your personal consultation with Dr. Thorsten Sattler this will be possible.

4) After Your Operation

Your face and neck might be a bit swollen and sometimes there are some bruises. Therefore, Dr. Sattler recommends to cool the operated areas, to elevate the head and to take some NSAIDs and enzymes if necessary. After about a week, the stiches can be removed. Sunbathing, solarium, sauna and sports should be avoided until all wounds are healed nicely. With an appropriate make-up and chic sunglasses, you are usually able to socialize again after a few days.

5) Frequently Asked Questions About Face And Neck Lifts

a) Do I need general anesthesia for a face and neck lift?

For a face lift or the combination of a face and neck lift general anesthesia and an overnight stay in the clinic is recommended. A single, small, so-called “submental” neck lift, which involves only a small incision with the tightening of small areas, may be performed on an outpatient basis. Second interventions or revision interventions should be performed under general anesthesia with a hospital stay of at least one night.

b) Can a face and neck lift be repeated several times?

Yes, this is possible, as well on the face as on the neck. Depending on the situation, for example in case of increased scarring, the operation takes more time and the organization is more difficult. Due to this it makes sense to perform second or third interventions under general anesthesia with a hospital stay of at least one night.

c) Can my face and neck be tightened in one operation?

Face and neck can be operated together, this is even useful, because the approach for a neck lift is the same as for a face lift. It is recommended to perform it under general anesthesia followed by an overnight stay in the clinic. The duration of the operation varies according to the anatomical situation, your aims and possibly previous operations.

d) Does it make sense to combine a face and neck lift with other procedures?

Yes, it may be advisable to perform a blepharoplasty, a brow lift or a forehead lift in the same operation, if it is necessary and desired. To bring more dynamic and youthfulness to your face, areas of less volume, for example temples, cheek bones and lips are refreshed with an autologous fat transfer. A better contour of your face can be achieved by liposucking your chin and neck. Furthermore, stem cells can be injected, which can improve scars, your skin quality and complexion.

e) Can I get BTX and hyaluronic acid after a facial or neck lift again?

Of course, after these operations BTX and hyaluronic acid can be reused, but wound healing should be completed and swelling subsided.
