Everyone ages – this process is completely normal and part of life. And yet, a lot of people are dissatisfied with the signs of aging that become apparent as they age. They want a more youthful and vital appearance. Changes are particularly noticeable in the face and can lead to frustrations.

While we cannot stop aging itself, we can certainly influence its appearance. One way to do this is with a facelift (often referred to as a „face lifting“). In addition, a neck lift can help. Face and neck lift – face and neck lift – are often performed together. Find out all about these treatments here.

What is a Face and Neck lift?

A face and neck lift can correct signs of aging in the face and neck area. Wrinkles and sagging skin on the face and neck are not uncommon. Reasons for this include:

  • UV light
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Individual genetics
  • Natural aging process

This can make you look sad, tired, pre-aged or even sick. During a neck and face lift, excess skin is removed and soft tissue is redistributed.

Face and neck lifts can additionally be combined well with other procedures to achieve an optimal overall aesthetic result. For example, with liposuction to the chin and neck, autologous fat transfer to the temples, zygomatic arches and lips, an eyebrow lift or eyelid lift.

What is the Goal of a Neck and Face Lift?

The main goal of a neck and face lift is to remove excess skin and redistribute soft tissue to create a youthful, vital facial appearance.

Combine Face and Neck Lift with other Procedures

To achieve the best possible aesthetic result, face and neck lift can be combined with other procedures, such as:

  • Liposuction
  • Autologous fat transfer
  • Brow lift
  • Forehead lift
  • Eyelid lift
  • BTX and hyaluronic acid
  • Stem cell transfer

An fat transfer to the face brings additional volume to the sagging parts of the face and has a rejuvenating effect. The extra volume provides additional freshness. In the same operation, liposuction can be used to remove any double chin or to contour the zygomatic arches. A youthful, dynamic appearance with fresh and vital radiance is the goal and can be achieved through a combination of different procedures.

Wrinkles and scars can also be injected and your skin can be revitalized with a stem cell transfer. An eyelid lift or even a brow and forehead lift will further enhance your eyes. Of course, in addition to the surgical procedures, BTX and hyaluronic acid can be applied for the final touch once wound healing is complete.

2. Face and Neck Lift: Surgery and Procedure

Only safe and modern surgical methods are used. Face and neck lifts are performed under general anesthesia. A small neck lift alone, also called a “submental” neck lift, can also be performed under local anesthesia and if the findings are moderate. The same goes for liposuction alone to the face and neck or isolated autologous fat transfers to the lips, temples and zygomatic arches.

If, on the other hand, a complete face and neck lift is to be performed, general anesthesia is necessary. Many different techniques for performing a facelift are known and proven. The best and safest surgical method for you will be chosen, depending on your anatomy, your goals and desires.

Usually, the scars can be made very fine and, if possible, hidden inconspicuously in your natural skin folds. The key is to avoid the ” surgical look” and enhance your natural beauty.

Incision for a Facelift

In a facelift or face and neck lift, the incisions are made in front of the ears and then run around the ears below the earlobes. Upward, the cuts extend into the hairy scalp. In this way, excess skin can be removed and soft tissue in the face can be moved upwards for underpadding, e.g. to create the midface incl. To reline zygomatic arches.

Dr. Sattler uses magnifying glasses and special instruments to be able to operate very precisely, to spare nerves and to minimize blood loss. The fine scars in front of the ears are hardly visible later, those behind the ears and in the hairy scalp are virtually invisible in everyday life.

Incision for a Neck Lift

For a neck lift alone and small to moderate findings, it may be sufficient to make only a small incision below the chin. From there, excess fatty tissue is then removed and the sagging neck muscles are tightened with sutures placed like a corset. The chin can be additionally shaped by liposuction or built up by an autologous fat transfer or hyaluronic acid. Below the chin, excess skin is removed elliptically. The results that can be achieved in this way are less drastic than with a major facelift with neck lift, but they look very natural. A submental neck lift is less complex and is associated with significantly less risk and downtime than a full facelift with neck lift.

There are a very large number of different surgical techniques for a face and neck lift. Therefore, before the surgery, Dr. Sattler will discuss with you exactly which technique will best and most safely to achieve your goals and wishes.

With attention to detail, Dr. Sattler will ensure that an even, youthful, fresh facial contour is created, resulting in the best possible aesthetic outcome with minimal scarring.

4. After your Facelift Surgery

Your face and neck may be initially swollen after your facelift surgery, and sometimes you may experience bruising. Therefore, Dr. Sattler recommends consistent cooling, elevation of the head and if necessary, the use of decongestant medications and enzymes.

After about a week, the stitches will be removed by Dr. Sattler himself and you can go about your daily activities. You should avoid sunbathing, solarium, sauna and sports until you are sure that the wound has healed. With appropriate make-up and a pair of chic sunglasses, you will usually be socially acceptable again after just one week.

5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Facelifts

For a face lift or a combination of a face and neck lift, general anesthesia and an overnight stay in the clinic are recommended. A small, so-called “submental” neck lift alone can be performed under local anesthesia and as an outpatient procedure for moderate findings, if necessary. Second or revision procedures should be performed under general anesthesia, with subsequent hospitalization for at least one night.

Yes, this is possible both on the face and neck. In general, the face and neck can be tightened several times. However, depending on the existing situation, such as pronounced scarring, the operation then takes longer and is not as easy to plan. Complex techniques may need to be used to achieve a beautiful, safe and long-lasting result. It is therefore advisable to perform second or third procedures under general anesthesia, with subsequent hospitalization for at least one night.

The face and neck can be operated together. This actually lends itself to the procedure, as the access route for a neck lift is the same as for a facelift. General anesthesia followed by an overnight stay in the clinic is recommended. Surgery time varies depending on the anatomical situation, your goals, and any previous surgeries that may have taken place.

Yes, it is possible to perform an eyelid lift, a brow lift or a forehead lift in the same operation, if this is necessary and desired. To bring more dynamism and youthfulness to your face, areas with a lack of volume, e.g. temples, zygomatic arches and lips, can be refreshed by a fat transfer. Additional vitality can be achieved by liposuction of the chin, chin angle and neck. Stem cells can be extracted from the extracted fat and injected into your face and any existing scars to improve skin quality and your complexion.

Of course, BTX and hyaluronic acid can be used again after these surgeries, but wound healing should be completed and swelling should have subsided.

The cost of a facelift is not a fixed all-inclusive price. Since every person is unique, the prerequisites, wishes and goals of the patients also differ. Of course, Dr. Sattler will discuss the facelift costs with you in detail beforehand.
