Eyelid Lift in Hamburg

People say, the eyes are the door to the soul. Over time, however, they may no longer accurately reflect how young we actually still feel and are. A professionally performed eyelid lift effectively fights signs of aging and ensures that the eyes once again become the shining highlight of your face. Read here about the options available.

Treatment without Inpatient Stay

An inpatient stay is not required for an eyelid lift! Especially in the current situation, many of our patients would like to have ambulatory treatment without an overnight inpatient stay. Eyelid lift is low-risk, done quickly and does not require general anesthesia.
So you can go home again the same day.

What is an Eyelid Lift?

Who does not know? The ageing process is particularly noticeable in the eyes. Wrinkles, furrows, dark circles and drooping eyelids are the consequences. However, not only the natural aging processes are responsible for this. Additional causes include:

  • UV light
  • Stress
  • Smoking
  • Individual genetics

But there is a solution: eyelid lifting can treat signs of aging around the eyes. Excess skin and fat are removed or redistributed.

Drooping upper eyelids are often associated with fatigue and advanced age. Most often, an eyelid lift is done for aesthetic reasons. If there is very significant excess skin on the upper eyelids, this is often referred to as “drooping eyelids”. In this case, the field of vision may also be limited. Then an upper eyelid lift should also be done for medical reasons.

Swollen lower eyelids are often referred to as “tear bags” and can make you look sad, tired, or even sick. The same goes for dark circles under the eyes. Accordingly, treatment of this area of the eye is called lower eyelid lift.

Eyelid lifts in Hamburg are done by Dr. med. Thorsten Sattler in his modern practice. These surgeries can be well combined with other procedures to achieve an optimal overall aesthetic result. Below you will find everything you need to know about eyelid lifts.

1. Before your Eyelid Surgery

In our specialist practice for plastic and aesthetic surgery you are in the best hands. Your well-being is especially important to us. For this reason, Dr. med. Thorsten Sattler holds a detailed consultation with you before every surgical procedure and examines you individually.

Since every person is unique in terms of their anatomy and desires, an individual treatment plan is created for you based on the latest methods and expertise in plastic surgery. Photographs are taken and with the help of drawings and photos the procedure is explained in detail. Dr. Sattler will also discuss limitations, possible risks and alternative treatment methods with you and create a personalized post-treatment plan with you.

He will define realistic goals with you and create a personalized treatment plan for you. The main goal of an eyelid lift is to remove excess skin and fatty tissue in order to eliminate the sagging facial expression and create a youthful-vital facial expression in its place. To achieve the best possible aesthetic result, an eyelid lift can be combined with other procedures, such as liposuction, fat transfer, or a brow lift.

An fat transfer to the face brings additional volume to the sagging parts of the face and has a rejuvenating effect. In the same surgery, liposuction can be used to remove a double chin, if present, or to contour the zygomatic arches. A youthful appearance with fresh and vital look is the goal and can be achieved through a combination of different procedures.

There are several rules of behavior that you should commit to during your eyelid lift with Dr. Sattler. Click here to access the rules of behavior.

2. Eyelid Lift: Surgical Methods

Only safe and modern surgical methods are used. Eyelid lifts can be performed under local or general anesthesia. A tightening of the upper eyelids is only slightly painful and is usually done as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. If, on the other hand, the upper and lower eyelids are to be treated together, general anesthesia is usually recommended.

Depending on the size, extent and localization of the additional procedures performed, either local or general anesthesia may be appropriate for you. Of course, you will decide this yourself together with Dr. Sattler. Various techniques for performing eyelid correction are known and have proven successful. The best and safest surgical method for you will be chosen, depending on your anatomy, your goals and desires.

Usually, the scars can be very finely designed and discreetly hidden in your natural skin folds. The key is to avoid the ” surgical look” and enhance your natural beauty.

Procedure of Upper Eyelid Lift

In an upper eyelid lift, incisions are made directly in the transverse crease on the upper eyelid to optimally remove protruding fat and excess skin. To do this, Dr. Sattler uses an electric scalpel that allows extremely precise cutting and minimizes blood loss. The fine scar on the upper eyelids is almost invisible afterwards. Your eyes will appear larger and more awake after the operation – you will appear more refreshed and youthful to those around you. If there was a visual field restriction caused by droopy upper eyelids before your surgery, this will also be corrected during the upper eyelid lift. In this case upper eyelid correction has a healing effect in addition to an aesthetic aspect.

Procedure of Lower Eyelid Lift

A lower eyelid lift usually involves making a fine incision just below the base of the eyelashes to remove fatty tissue, dark circles and excess skin. Sometimes the excess fat only needs to be redistributed and not removed. If there is no treatment of excess skin needed, the procedure can also be performed over the conjunctiva on the inner side of the lower eyelid and no visible incisions are made. There are many different surgical techniques for lower eyelid correction. Therefore, before the surgery, Dr. Sattler will discuss with you exactly which technique will best and most safely to achieve your goals and wishes. In combination with eyelid lifts, fat transfer to regions with volume loss is an option, for example over the zygomatic arches or at the temples. The extra volume provides additional freshness. Wrinkles, furrows and scars can also be injected or your skin revitalized with a stem cell transfer. With attention to detail, Dr. Sattler will ensure that an even skin contour is created, resulting in the best possible aesthetic outcome with minimal scarring.

4. After your Eyelid Surgery

The surgical wounds are taped with narrow skin-colored patches at the end of the procedure. The eye area as well as the eyelids themselves may be swollen initially after eyelid surgery and sometimes bruising may occur. Therefore, Dr. Sattler recommends consistent cooling, keeping the head raised and, if necessary, taking decongestant medications and enzymes. After about a week, the stitches will be removed by Dr. Sattler himself and you can go about your daily activities. You should avoid sunbathing, solarium, sauna and sports until you are sure that the wound has healed. With appropriate makeup and possibly a pair of fancy sunglasses, the after-effects are barely visible after just a few days.

5. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Eyelid Lift Surgery

An upper eyelid lift can almost always be performed under local anesthesia, including a second or revision procedure. The surgery rarely takes more than an hour, involves very little blood loss, and the pain is very manageable. The procedure can usually be performed on an outpatient basis, but you should not drive a car after the procedure.

Yes, this is possible on both the upper and lower eyelids. Basically, upper and lower eyelids can be tightened several times. However, depending on the situation at hand, complex techniques may need to be used to achieve a beautiful, safe and long-lasting result. This depends, for example, on any increased scarring or distortion. Sometimes it is useful to do second or third procedures under general anesthesia, especially on the lower eyelids.

Upper and lower eyelids can be treated together. In most cases general anesthesia is recommended. Usually, such a combined procedure lasts three to four hours. The surgical time varies depending on the anatomical situation, goals, and previous surgeries that may have taken place. By combining the two procedures you reduce your downtime compared to two separate procedures, this can be beneficial for working professionals or mothers of young children.

If, in addition to the eyelids, the eyebrows are also sagging, it is a good idea to perform a brow lift in the same operation. In the case of significant problems, it may also be advisable to have a forehead lift, midface lift, facelift or even a neck lift. To bring more dynamism and youthfulness to your face, areas with a lack of volume, e.g. temples, zygomatic arches and lips, can be refreshed by a fat transfer. Additional vitality can be achieved by liposuction of the chin, chin angle and neck. Stem cells can be extracted from the extracted fat and injected into your face and any existing scars to improve skin quality and your complexion. Of course, completely different procedures can be combined with eyelid correction, such as breast augmentation or rhinoplasty.
